________________________________________________

The first monthly meeting of the Existing Transit Provider Subcommittee of the Transit Advisory Committee (TAC) was held at the district offices of East Grand Middle Schools in Granby on January 5, 2000. In attendance were:  Janet Aley (EGSD, Subcommittee Chair), Bob Anderson (Grand Co. BOCC), Duane Dailey (Grand Co. BOCC), Jim Gerton (SilverCreek/Berthoud), Kent Meyer (YMCA/Snow Mtn. Ranch), Steve Saffle (Ryder/The Lift), Scott Ledin (FVMRD), Brian Huseboe (GLMRD), _________________________ and Sue Ann Fitch (TAC Chair).

A.            Janet Aley called the meeting to order.   A brief explanation of the purpose of this subcommittee was given:  to explore any and all coordination of and help which can be extended between existing transit providers in Grand and Jackson Counties.

B.             Each participant discussed what they need vis-¦-vis better transit services in these counties. Those who could meet those needs volunteered their help.  By way of example, the recreation district representatives discussed needing more regular activity transportation for children & particularly after school & but also for special activities.  Janet Aley mentioned that East Grand Schools, as a governmental entity, is willing to make its busses available for a charge that doesn't include profit.  Steve Saffle mentioned needing a place to park Ryder busses in Grand Lake overnight.  Jim Gerton indicated that SilverCreek may be able to make  plug-accessible space available at the Marina in Grand Lake.  Kent Meyer indicated that the ëYî needs to develop some kind of circulator transportation on their grounds, particularly to get people from housing and or the admin. Building over to the Nordic Ski Center 1 mile away.  As SilverCreek already makes in-and-out trips to Snow Mountain Ranch daily, Jim Gerton noted that they would explore making a trip on down to the Nordic Center ìif there were enough riders.î  Janet Aley mentioned needing a local annual tester so driver can keep up with annual licensing requirements.  Steve Saffle of Ryder indicated they could provide this assistance without charge.  The possibility of cross-training, so all drivers for SilverCreek/Berthoud, WinterPark/The Lift and East Grand Schools would hold ìSî certificates and could thus be used as substitutes or ëfill-in' drivers for the other entity as needed.  The possibility of a joint public/private entity maintenance facility, with a bus wash and 4 point lift, possibly on Y/Snow Mtn.Ranch property was discussed and will be explored further as part of the TDP (Transportation Development Program) process with the consultant.  The new tour bus entity in North Park, Sage Tours, discussed needing general business advice about fares and procedures.  Several participants offered their expertise and stayed after the conclusion of the regular meeting to discuss their needs further.  They also discussed a recent survey taken indicating that if transportation were available it might be possible to get North Park employees to Grand County on a daily basis.  Jim Gerton and Steve Saffle will be following up on this, perhaps by having Sage Tours bring their 18-passenger vehicle to Grand County and leasing it during the day for use in Grand County while the Jackson County employees are at work.  Various participants agreed to ìloanî mechanics when available to other participants when possible.

C.             It was agreed that all participants will encourage other transit providers to be present at the next meeting and will bring a list in three categories:  (1)  What you, as a transit provider, need to help you provide better service (this should be a ìChristmasî wish list); (2) What you, as a transit provider, can contribute to other providers; and (3) exactly what routes and pick-up/drop-off times/points your existing transit services are available to the public. (See attached).  Patrick Brower (Grand County newspapers) and the TDP consultant may attend the next meeting.

PLEASE BRING THIS COMPLETED FORM TO MEETING 2/14/00.
