TAC GETS GRANT, ANNOUNCES PROGRESS

On Thursday, December 9, 1999, the Transit Advisory Committee (TAC) was awarded $3000 in grant funds from the Northwest Colorado Council of Governments (NWCCOG).   At a NWCOG meeting in Eagle the chairperson of the ‘fledging’ TAC presented the need for funds to be used to survey transit needs of Grand County residents. The TAC is composed of more than forty (40) public and private entities and citizens residing and/or doing business in Grand and Jackson Counties and was formed to address the growing needs of locals and tourists for better transit options.  Jackson County was also awarded $3000 in NWCCOG funds to support the transportation planning process.

The Counties, several incorporated towns and three private entities (WPRA, SilverCreek Holdings & YMCA/Snow Mountain Ranch) have to date committed $46,060 in cash to apply to the cost of hiring a professional transit consultant to assist in this process. Organizational and individual members of the TAC have committed substantial additional direct in-kind support of a successful completion of the project. The TAC has also applied for additional grants from the Colorado Department of Transportation and the American Public Transit Association. The consultant should be ‘on-board’ in mid-January.

TAC working meetings are the first Thursday of every month from 6-8:30pm.  The public is encouraged to attend.  The meetings are at the former Mountain Parks Electric Building, now offices of Grand County EMS and Land Conservancy, at 81 W. Agate in Granby.  During 2000 the TAC will be working with a consultant to develop a comprehensive short and long term transportation plan for Grand County and exploring both public support for various options and better coordination of existing transit services.  Public input meetings will also be held in 2000.
