PRESS RELEASE/PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Last week, the Transit Advisory Committee (TAC) announced the contract award to the transportation consulting team to prepare a Transit Development Plan (TDP) for both counties. LSC Transportation Consultants, Inc., in association with Charlier Associates, Inc., will begin the transit project this month. LSC is based out of Colorado Springs and provides transit planning services throughout the western states. Charlier Associates is based out of Boulder and has provided transit planning for numerous winter resort communities in the Rocky Mountains. The transportation consulting team will work in conjunction with local county and town governments, each transit provider within Grand and Jackson Counties, the Transit Advisory Committee and the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The TDP will set long- and short-term goals and objectives for transit services within the two counties and will outline recommended coordination of existing transit services. Various methods of transit funding will be examined. The TDP will also provide specific suggestions and guidance for transit services for the next six years. Development of the Transit Plan will provide opportunities for community residents and local governments to set the direction for public transportation in the future and also determine how best to meet growing transportation needs. There will be several opportunities for local residents to provide input and to comment on the Transit Plan recommendations as they are developed.

The regular monthly work meeting of the Transit Advisory Committee this month will also be the ‘kick-off’ meeting with the newly hired transportation expert. At this Thursday’s meeting, February 3, 2000, from 6-8:30pm in Granby at 81 W. Agate, the TDP consultant team will present a project overview and lead a preliminary discussion of transit issues facing Grand and Jackson counties. The public, every TAC member and each transit provider in the counties are all strongly urged to be at this meeting.
