Disabled Visitors

Grand County is a welcome destination for visitors with special needs. Snow Mountain Ranch/YMCA of the Rockies offers handicap access to campgrounds. It is also the site of the Vacation Kidney Center of the Rockies, offering a dialysis treatment center for kidney patients. Snow Mountain Ranch Therapeutic Riding Center, with equestrian activities for the disabled is also located here.

The Sulphur Ranger District of the US Forest Service maintains a boardwalk at Williams Fork. Near Winter Park, the Jim Creek Boardwalk loop allows wheelchair accessibility to national forest land.

Just west of Hot Sulphur Springs, the Division of Wildlife maintains a rifle range with handicap access as well as fishing and hunting access.

The National Sports Center for the Disabled, headquartered at the Winter Park Ski Area, offers nationally-acclaimed summer and winter recreation programs. Winter Park's ski program for the disabled is the largest in the world, helping thousands of disabled kids and adults experience the freedom and excitement of downhill skiing. In summer, you'll find whitewater rafting, mountain biking, hiking, Alpine Slides, hayrides and camping. NSCD has scheduled a special weekend for disabled children and their families and a weekend getaway for independent disabled adults.
